WOW. Somehow, it has been a full year since we moved into the new house, and even more than that since I wrote a blog post. I'm honestly kind of embarrassed by that, for some reason. Life happens, and I'm okay with that, but somewhere along the way, during the past year or so, I've found it harder to show up. Maybe it's the ages of my kids and how busy life is. Maybe it's that being on social media all the time can be exhausting. Honestly, I'm sure its all of the above, but here we are, a full year later and there is SO much to catch you up on!
Maybe it's easier to work backwards on this one, and then add in projects that we've done along the way. Our current project, in case you missed this little adventure, also happens to be our largest. We are currently renovating our kitchen, which, along with completely replacing everything in it, also involves creating a walk in pantry in what used to be our office (who needs an office anyways). It's all going to be amazing when we are done, but I'd be lying if I said I'm ready to never renovate another kitchen again.
We are working with Cabinets City for the kitchen, and we couldn't be happier with their customer service and the quality of the cabinets. We decided to go with a two toned design for the kitchen, and so all of our lower cabinets will be a beautiful wood color, and the uppers will be white. Here's the plan:
The Island: The kitchen island in our current kitchen is bar height for part of it, and counter height on the other side. It also holds the cooktop, and the way it was designed is a huge reason for why we want to redo the kitchen in the first place. Having the cooktop in the island isn't ideal, but it is also really not ideal when the cooktop is on the end of the island. There's virtually no surrounding counter space for food prep and cooking, and it just isn't functional. Our plan is to move the cooktop out of the island, and instead put the ovens (which are currently wall ovens) inside the island. This will give us WAY more counter space, and a big, beautiful island that will be the centerpiece of our entire first floor.
The Pantry: Though we are replacing all of our cabinets, we aren't completely scrapping all of our current cabinets. Our plan is to take most of them and move them to the office/pantry (hereby named "The Pantry"), which sits just behind the kitchen. We will be using the original cabinets to create a walk in/butler's pantry. We are SO excited about this change up, because although we are losing office space, we will also be adding a ton of extra storage, and that's something that we don't have a lot of in this house (whoever built it kind of forgot about closets). We will eventually be replacing the doors on the pantry cabinets in order to update them, and I hope to paint the boxes a fun color to match whatever door we choose. I think it will be such a fun element in our home, and I know it will make our kitchen way more functional.
So that's the rundown of our current project, and I hope you'll follow along on the updates! I will go in to more detail as the opportunities arise, but also follow along on Instagram so you don't miss any updates!
