From Basic to Bold: My Moody Laundry Room Makeover

You know that one room in your house that works so hard and gets absolutely zero credit? For me, it was the laundry room. She was tired. She was beige. She deserved better.

So I did what any reasonable woman with a paint brush and a Pinterest board would do — I gave her a full-on moody makeover.

Let’s Talk About the Color 😍

I went bold. I went dramatic. I went “is that black? is that green? who is she?”

Enter: Sherwin Williams Shade-Grown.

It’s this deep, dark, green-black situation that feels like it listens to vinyl records and drinks espresso. It’s moody without being gloomy. Rich without being heavy. Basically the paint version of wearing all black and pretending you have your life together.

And can we just say? Laundry hits different when you’re folding towels in a room that looks like a high-end boutique instead of a fluorescent-lit afterthought.

The Real Star: Modular Closets

Now let’s get to the part that truly changed my daily life — the modular closets system.

Friends… everything has a home now.

And when I say everything, I mean:

  • The hangers.

  • The random sunglasses that migrate into the laundry room for reasons unknown.

  • The lint roller collection (why do I own five?).

  • The mystery socks waiting for their soulmate.

This setup lets me customize shelves, rods, and drawers exactly how I need them. No wasted space. No awkward gaps. Just beautiful, functional organization.

It’s giving: “I have systems.”

It’s giving: “I fold fitted sheets without crying.”

(It’s aspirational. We’re growing.)

Organizational Tools That Are Doing the Most (In the Best Way)

Let’s break down the MVPs:

Hangers All matching. All intentional. No more wire hanger trauma from 2003.

Hooks For bags, for hats, for that one jacket that’s “not dirty but not clean.” You know the one.

Sunglass Storage Because apparently my laundry room doubles as the lost-and-found for eyewear. Having them neatly displayed instead of scattered in random baskets? Life-changing.

Acrylic Drawers Clear. Clean. Chic. I can see everything without digging like I’m on an archaeological expedition.

Cream Fluted Boxes These are the moment. Soft, textured, warm against the dark green walls. They hide the not-so-pretty necessities while still looking styled and intentional. Function disguised as decor — my favorite genre.

The Vibe Now? Moody. Organized. Slightly smug. Kind of like me.

Walking into this space feels calm and elevated. Even when the laundry pile says otherwise.

And here’s the thing — when a space is beautiful and functional, you actually want to maintain it. When everything has a designated home, it’s so much easier to reset the room at the end of the day.

No more chaotic shelves. No more avalanche of cleaning supplies. No more pretending I don’t see the mess.

She’s organized. She’s sophisticated. She’s still washing paint towels — but she’s doing it in style.

If you’ve been thinking about going dark with paint or investing in a modular system, consider this your sign.

Moody walls + intentional organization = main character energy… even in the laundry room.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to refold towels no one asked me to refold. For the aesthetic.
